Gig, single release and LP re-issue

We’re pretty excited to be playing out first gig of 2016, with a new bassist and drummer no less (Benton Glassey on bass and Ben Morton on drums). We’ll be playing songs from the soon be released 2nd album too. Oh the anticipation!

In other news, we had the world premiere of a single from the new album. “Popular People” is the 1st single from our 2nd album “The Wonderful Shapes of Back Door Keys” which is due out in June/July here in NZ and also in the UK/ Europe as a co-release with UK label Occultation Recordings.

Just to confuse everyone, “Popular People Do Popular People” – our 1st album, from which this new single gets its title, is also being ‘re’-issued on LP at the same time as our new album comes out.

New Album! The Wonderful Shape of Back Door Keys.

Check it out!! The first copies of the new album have arrived!! We’ve called it “The Wonderful Shape of Back Door Keys.” Isn’t it colourful?! You’ll have to wait until “June”ish to actually purchase a copy, but that’s not too far away. In other news, our first album, “Popular People Do Popular People” is being released on a limited edition LP too, thanks to the generous backing of James McKenzie (Naive Melody Records), Nick at Occultation Recordings, and Ian Henderson (of our own label, Fishrider Records).

All the exciting things are happening!!.

Dunedin! And a finished album!

Karl and I went on a walkabout around Dunedin to brainstorm album release ideas in lieu of the completion of the album (!!) and found a bunch of lovely views. We found a waterfall and the Labyrinth! I’ve also added a shot of our amazing album mastering genius, Tex Houston (and thrown in some photos of today’s skies too – cos why not, they’re pretty). We’re hoping to bring you some sounds from the album over the coming months, so stay tuned.

New album!…almost

So we’ve been working very hard lately on recording a new album! We’re very excited about it. It’s sounding really good. You can expect our usual array of stellar songs by Karl Bray, plus some excellent songs contributed by our new(ish) bassist, Robin Cederman. We think you’ll like it more than the last album. Anyway, here are some photos of  our recording sessions over the last couple of months.

We’re playing at Chick’s, Saturday 27th June, with Grawlixes and Strange Harvest

We’re playing an event!! Yup, it’s happening tomorrow night at Chick’s Hotel. So you’ve got all of tomorrow to prepare. You can go to the Farmer’s market and gorge on some tasty food before having a long nap. Drag yourself out of bed, find that outfit you’ve been saving up especially, then cover it with all the warm clothes you can manage to survive the Dunedin winter. Find that $10 you lost down the back of the couch, or steal of a loved one (it’s for a worthy cause). Catch the Chick’s bus from outside Countdown on Cumberland St @ 8.30pm, or outside the Uni Library on Albany St @ 8.35pm (Free with a 2015 Radio Onecard, $5 otherwise). You can stand in front of the fire at Chick’s while you watch Grawlixes woo you with some new songs. Then dance yourself warm enough to strip off to Strange Harvest and show off your fancy garb to the sexy lead singer in The Prophet Hens. Sound like a plan?? Thought so!! Here’s the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/768200956632491/
